When we started PureBorn, we had one deceptively simple question: what should a nappy actually be made of? The answer had to work on two fronts at once. It had to be gentle enough to sit against newborn skin for hours at a time, and it had to be something we felt genuinely good about producing at scale.
Bamboo answered both. Here's why we kept coming back to it.
A plant that grows back
Bamboo is a grass, not a tree. That distinction matters more than it sounds. Harvesting bamboo doesn't kill the plant — it regrows from the same root system, season after season, without replanting. It thrives without the irrigation and chemical input that thirstier crops demand, and it does it fast.
For a product that is, by its nature, used once and thrown away, the material's ability to renew itself is not a marketing detail. It's the whole argument.
Soft in a way babies notice
Bamboo fibre is naturally round and smooth, without the microscopic burrs that make some fibres feel scratchy. Against skin that's days old, that softness is the difference between a baby who settles and one who squirms.
It's also breathable. Air moves through a bamboo top sheet rather than sitting trapped against the skin, which helps keep things cooler and drier through a long afternoon — something parents in the Gulf tend to appreciate quickly.

The part we can't shortcut
A good material made badly is still made badly. That's why our production runs on 100% green energy — the emissions attached to manufacturing are as much a part of a product's footprint as the raw material it started as.
We're not going to pretend a disposable nappy is a zero-impact object. It isn't. What we can do is make every decision inside it the better one: the renewable fibre over the extractive one, the certified pulp over the untraceable one, the clean energy over the cheap energy.

Bamboo won because it didn't ask us to choose. It's soft enough for the most delicate skin in the house and renewable enough that we can keep making it without borrowing against your child's future.
